Curiouser and Curiouser

Inspiration 7 March 2010 3 Comments

In celebration of the release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland in theaters a few days ago, I thought an Alice-themed post would be nice and it’s a good thing I happened to stumble upon something while browsing the web.

Gallery Nucleus located in Alhambra, California opened its Curiouser & Curiouser: Inspired by ‘Alice in Wonderland’ exhibit last February 27th. The exhibition will be in view until March 29, 2010. And apparently, many of the artworks featured in the exhibit have already been sold. Too bad, I really do want an artwork from this exhibit! Not only are the artworks very pretty but so are the frames!

“It’s been more than a century and Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’ continues to enchant children and adults. With the highly anticipated film adaptation by Tim Burton and Disney Studios looming in the horizon, Gallery Nucleus presents a captivating exhibit as artists of the film and beyond create their vision of the iconic story and celebrate it’s lasting legacy.

Featuring work by Amy Sol, Chris Appelhans, Kukula, Naoto Hattori and more, a superbly talented and diverse roster get curiouser and curiouser with works that range from the gothic to the whimsical. Glimpse into the creative brilliance of Disney Studios as exclusive, never-before-seen concept art, production, and film stills will be shown from the upcoming Alice In Wonderland film.” - excerpt from the Curiouser & Curiouser press release

Below are some of the works featured in the exhibit.

Just A Minute In February 2010

Just A Minute 28 February 2010 9 Comments

Anticipating: Alice in Wonderland this coming week! Also, Paramore Live in Manila this coming March 9! My friends and I already have tickets to the latter and we’re very, very excited!

Delaying: My thoughts on the musical, Rent, which I saw last February 6. I sure have lots to say on this one. I’ll most likely post them any day this coming week. Also, Project 365. I’m fully aware that I haven’t uploaded my pictures for February. I have a month’s worth of Project 365 photos currently stored in my digital camera that I haven’t uploaded yet. Whoops. I’ll work on that ASAP.

Eating: Gummy Bears and Oreos. I miss eating both snacks as they happen to be two of my favorites.

Feeling: Happy and stressed at the same time. Happy because I won as Councilor in our college’s student council earlier this week and stressed because I have an exam, case study and a story book to worry about this coming week.

Listening: John Mayer’s Battle Studies and Adele’s Live from Soho. I don’t think I’ve listen to a lot of artists this month as I was so busy doing other things and my iPod earphones broke so I need a new pair.

Wanting: A new phone. I believe it’s time for me to have a new one as I’ve been using a second-hand phone for a year now. It has a short battery life which really annoys me so I really need a new one with a longer battery life.

Watching: I’m actually having a Lord of the Rings marathon. Since I don’t know where our DVDs were, Papa ended up buying a new boxed set of the trilogy. I can’t remember the last time I had a LotR marathon. I surely missed the Middle-Earth gang.

Book Cover Love: Lolita

Book Cover Love 21 February 2010 12 Comments

This category was inspired by Krissy after she left a comment in one of my entries regarding pretty book covers. It gave me an idea to post various coversA that I adore from a particular book title or works by the same author. I’ll be doing this once in a while as I try my best to search the Internet for such lovely things.

To start this off is Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov.

Weidenfeld & Nicolson General (2009) - This is the book cover that I own. :)
